I've been using it for about a month now and am very satisfied. It's very easy to switch between using the monitor for gaming and for work, I simply connect the HDMI cable from my monitor to my laptop instead of the device. Along with the power cable to supply electricity to the device (provided with the device), that makes four cables and a little box on my desk. Essentially, I plugged my PS3 into this with a HDMI cable (video and audio input), plugged in another HDMI cable connected to my monitor (video output), and plugged a speaker into it with an AUX cable (audio output). This device solved this problem by allowing me to separate the video and audio signals. However, my monitor does not have built-in speakers, and there are no options to use Bluetooth for sound (i.e., it was not possible to connect my PS3 to the monitor for video and to a separate Bluetooth speaker for audio). I wanted to connect an old games console (PS3) to my monitor. Works for what I need it to do: absolutelyĪm I comfortable having it on all the time and working: not really This little device stops that from happening and allows my Bluetooth transceiver to pull audio off the HDMI cable without letting the Amazon 4K TV knowing. So what do I use this for? Simple: because the Amazon 4K TV only supports one headset, and (when headset is connected along with a number of Samsung sound bars), it drops the sound connection meaning that the sound bar turns off: “you’ve no music going through, so I will turn off to save power”. It usually stops working prior to usage, but it has twice stopped working during usage. I have to reach around and unplug it, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in again. Knock one more star due to it starting to stop working and flash all lights oddly. But it gets hot, and hot enough to go “That’s actually really hot!”. There’s no off button, and it’s driven by USB. Let’s be honest: this will be on all the time as it is a thing that can forget once installed. Knock one star because this thing gets HOT. Great piece of kit: cheap (bought it at £19.99), tiny, and works… most of the time. ![]() Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 January 2021 The former allows 192kHz playback, the latter hard caps the Fire TV to limit its output to 48kHz max).Įxcellent audio extraction from HDMI 24/192 max Not sure why, have powered down, powered up, updated the Amazon Fire TV stick to no avail.Įrror on my part meant that I limited the audio output of the Fire TV 3rd Gen to 48kHz (Display&Sounds>Audio>Surround Sound choices: Choose “Best Available” instead of "Always PCM". Sound is immeasurably better than the 16/48 I was getting from my Amazon Fire TV Gen 1 (with optical output). This audio extractor is 24/192 capable, allowing the highest quality PCM stream to be extracted for feeding an external DAC and speakers. I wanted to listen to the Amazon Music HD stream which was only available from a newer Fire TV stick (2020 edition), with no optical or co-ax digital output for a DAC->HiFi.
